The objective of the Midwest Sports
Challenge, Inc. is to provide consistent, structured, quality athletic events
for youth in the Columbia and Mid-Missouri areas. Midwest Sports Challenge,
Inc. (MSC) will consist of leagues, camps, clinics and special events that
range from one day to five weeks of participation.
Sporting activities for MSC will consist of basketball, football, soccer and a
state league competition for youth and adults. Main emphasis will be placed on
basketball for the first year of MSC.
Basketball will offer two elementary programs that will cater to grades
Kindergarten to Third. In the first year there will be a Winter League and a
Spring League offered in the program. Both leagues will run once a week for
five consecutive weeks. During the winter, spring and summer month's basketball
camps will also be offered to youth grades kindergarten through eight. During
the summer a ball handling and shooting skills competition will be conducted
for youth grades kindergarten to 12.
MSC will also provide winter and summer basketball leagues for Adults (19 and
over). The goal is to get teams from the Columbia and Mid-Missouri area to
participate in a eight-week competitive league, with four teams qualifying for
playoffs and the winners advancing to the championship game.
MSC plans to run a state league basketball competition for youth and adults
that will be held in Columbia, Missouri during the summer.
MSC's goal is to provide the youth in the community consistent programs that
they can gain benefits not only from the athletic side but also from academics,
skills and training perspective. Youth will have the opportunity not only to
participate but also gain employment through officiating, scorekeeping,
concessions and volunteering.
Through MSC and its activities it will provide a strong tool to reach out to a
broad range of youth throughout the community. Most people feel a need to be a
conforming member of a winning team and to be recognized as an individual.
Youth like to "count" to be significant. MSC's goal is to provide public
recognition of positive efforts of achievement to build the self-esteem of our
youth.
